游戏描述在古老优异种族消失成为历史后，六大银河种族为了扩张势力，开始展开探险，并不可避免将展开一场大战。在游戏中，六大种族将获取知识来建立军队，并且唤起探索星球的欲望，游戏强调具备庞大的银河系地图，具有超过 5000 颗星球系统，玩家将可选择六大种族的其中一族来扩张势力、控制星球，不同种族将有不同的故事，玩家可在银河中以 3D 画面进行战争，游戏强调多样化的胜利条件，以增加其耐玩性。
